Introduction

The State Legal Services Authority, Union Territory, Chandigarh (SLSA, UT Chandigarh) has been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of society. Its objective is to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen due to economic or other disabilities.

The Authority also organizes Lok Adalats to provide quick and amicable settlement of disputes and ensures that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on the basis of equal opportunity.

The District & Sessions Judge, Chandigarh, is the Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority, assisted by a dedicated Chief Judicial Magistrate as full-time Secretary. The DLSA carries forward the mission of providing free legal aid and organizing legal awareness activities at the district level.
